Colours of Culture - a feel good creative girls’ event

Join us for a feel good creative girls’ event designed by girls, for girls — a safe, welcoming and uplifting space filled with summer vibes, creativity, laughter and connection.

This event is all about celebrating culture, identity, heritage and community in a positive and creative way. Created for girls by girls, the event has been shaped around what young girls themselves said they wanted: a relaxed space to have fun, be creative, meet new people, express themselves freely and feel proud of who they are.

We want every girl who attends to feel comfortable, included and confident in expressing their culture, identity and experiences. The event will bring together girls from different backgrounds, cultures and faiths to learn from one another, celebrate diversity and build genuine friendships in a safe and informal environment.

Girls are encouraged to attend in their cultural dress or clothing that represents their heritage, traditions or identity. This is an opportunity to proudly showcase and celebrate the beauty of different cultures, languages and traditions in a positive and welcoming space.

As part of the celebration, girls are also invited to bring a dish or snack from their culture to share with others. Food is such an important part of culture, family and identity, and this will be a lovely way for girls to learn about different traditions, try new foods and connect through shared experiences.

There will be plenty of snacks, drinks, creativity and positive energy throughout the day, creating a fun and welcoming atmosphere where girls can relax, socialise and simply enjoy being themselves.

When - Saturday 11th July 3-6pm

Where - Starworks

Who -  All girls ages 12-18

Activities

🎨 Canvas Painting
Girls will create their own canvas artwork inspired by culture, identity, traditions, family, community, heritage or what makes them proud of who they are. They may include colours, cultural patterns, flags, landmarks, languages, traditions or symbols that represent their background and identity.

🍪 Cookie Decorating
Girls will decorate cookies inspired by colours, celebrations and cultural themes from around the world. This fun and relaxed activity encourages interaction, creativity and conversation while helping girls connect through shared experiences.

✍️ Creative Short Story Competition
Girls will also have the opportunity to take part in a creative writing competition themed around culture, identity, community, family and country. Stories should be submitted one week before the event. Winners will be selected by a panel and celebrated during the event, with selected stories shared on the day to highlight creativity, storytelling and young voices.
