🌿 Nature Explorers – Where Adventure Meets Outdoors 🦋🌳
Sheffield Young Explorers (SYE) is excited to bring you Nature Explorers, a fun and engaging outdoor nature programme delivered as part of This Is Us – North East Sheffield.
Nature Explorers has been created to give children the opportunity to explore, create, learn and connect with the natural world around them. Through outdoor exploration, nature-inspired crafts, games and hands-on activities, children will discover just how much there is to see, learn and enjoy within their local green spaces.
This is about more than simply spending time outdoors. We want children to develop a lasting connection with nature, grow in confidence, make new friendships and feel a stronger sense of belonging within Firth Park and their local community.

🍃 What Will Children Be Doing?
Each Nature Explorers session will combine creativity, exploration and outdoor learning. Activities will vary across the programme and may include:
- 🍂 Nature-inspired arts and crafts
- 🔎 Nature hunts and outdoor exploration
- 🐝 Discovering plants, insects and wildlife
- 🌳 Exploring different parts of Firth Park
- 🎨 Creative activities inspired by the natural environment
- 🌱 Seasonal nature activities
- 🦋 Outdoor games and challenges
- 🤝 Teamwork and opportunities to make new friends
- 💭 Activities encouraging curiosity, imagination and problem-solving
We want children to learn through doing. The sessions will encourage them to observe, explore, create, ask questions and discover the natural environment for themselves.
Activities will also change with the seasons, meaning that each Nature Explorers session can offer a new experience and adventure.
🌿 Meet Our Facilitator – Miriam from Waymaster Games Ltd
We are delighted to have Miriam from Waymaster Games Ltd leading our Nature Explorers sessions.
Miriam brings a fantastic combination of education, outdoor learning, creativity and inclusive practice to the programme. She holds a PGCE, Level 3 Forest School certification and an Archery GB Session Coach qualification.
She also has over a decade of mixed experience supporting children and adults with special educational needs, giving her an understanding of how to create learning experiences that are engaging, inclusive and adaptable to a wide variety of needs and abilities.
Waymaster Games Ltd is a growing family venture, supported by Miriam's husband, who brings over 12 years of experience in 3D printing and game design. Together, they have developed an educational approach that brings together creativity, technical skills and a love of learning.
For Nature Explorers, Miriam will draw particularly on her Forest School, teaching and inclusive learning experience to create hands-on opportunities for children to explore their environment, use their imagination and learn through play and discovery.
Her approach fits perfectly with what we want Nature Explorers to achieve – helping children build confidence, try new things, develop practical and creative skills, make friends and form a positive relationship with the outdoors.
We are really excited to welcome Miriam and Waymaster Games Ltd to the programme and for our young explorers to benefit from the experience and creativity she brings. 🌳
💚 Helping Children Connect With Nature
A key focus of Nature Explorers is helping children develop a positive and meaningful relationship with the outdoors.
We want children to recognise that they do not have to travel far to experience nature. There is so much to discover within Firth Park and the green spaces on their doorstep.
By exploring their local environment in new ways, children can become more curious about nature, more confident spending time outdoors and more aware of why looking after our green spaces matters.
Nature Explorers also gives children dedicated time away from their usual routines to be active, use their imagination, create, socialise and enjoy being outdoors.

Nature Explorers is delivered as part of This Is Us – North East Sheffield and supports its wider aims around community connection, participation, wellbeing and creating positive opportunities for local children and families.
Through the programme, we want children to:
Connect – with nature, other children and their local community.
Participate – in positive and accessible activities within their own neighbourhood.
Belong – by creating positive experiences and memories in their local green spaces.
Grow – through creativity, new experiences, confidence and learning.
Thrive – by being active, spending time outdoors, having fun and developing positive friendships.
Ultimately, we want children to leave with more than something they have made. We want them to leave with new skills, experiences, friendships, memories and a stronger connection with the world around them.
👟 What Should My Child Bring?
As Nature Explorers includes outdoor activities, please make sure your child:
- wears comfortable clothing suitable for outdoor activities;
- wears sensible, closed footwear;
- brings a waterproof coat if rain is expected;
- dresses appropriately for the weather; and
- brings a water bottle.
Please send children in clothes you don't mind getting a little muddy, grassy or messy – exploring and creating are all part of the experience!
🌦️ Outdoor Programme
As connecting with nature is at the heart of Nature Explorers, a significant part of the programme will take place outdoors.
Activities may be adapted depending on the weather and conditions on the day to make sure children can participate safely and comfortably.
📌 Important Booking Information
Places are limited, so please only book if your child is able to attend. If your circumstances change after booking, please let us know as soon as possible so we can offer the place to another child.
Parents/carers should provide accurate contact details, medical information, allergy information and emergency contact details when registering.

This booking is for Saturday 26th September only, but Nature Explorers is a wider series of sessions.
Further sessions are planned for:
Saturday 10th October 2026
Saturday 14th November 2026
Saturday 16th January 2027
All sessions are planned for 11:00am–1:00pm at Firth Park.
Parents are welcome to register their child separately for the other available sessions. We would love children to come back and continue their Nature Explorers journey, experiencing the park through different seasons, taking part in new activities and continuing to build their confidence and connection with nature.
